DIO-128 Dynamic Digital I/O System
DIO-128 makes it easy to navigate to digital transitions. Even in a sea of data.

High Performance Digital
Timing Analysis
The DIO-128 allows you to easily record and timestamp state changes
on 128+ digital inputs in LabVIEW® for Windows 95, 98, 2000 or Windows
NT. The DSP control program for the DIO-128 system allows the board
to monitor a large number of digital channels and return a timestamp
and the status of all digital lines when any one of the digital
lines change state. If no state change occurs, no data is sampled.
This prevents collecting large quantities of data when no events
are occurring. By specifying the digital lines that can trigger
a sample, state changes on other lines can be ignored. This allows
you to acquire data only when state changes occur on lines that
are of interest to you.
High Performance Digital Stimulus
The DIO-128 allows you to easily create and execute complex patterns
on up to 64 digital output channels. By only specifying the timestamp
and state of channels that change, it is much simpler to create
complex patterns for devices under test. The DIO-128 provides for
a large FIFO that can replay the desired patterns continuously or
for a limited number of repetitions. Combine the Digital Timing
Analysis and Digital Stimulus modes for a flexible, high performance
digital test system.
Custom Applications Provide Ultimate Flexibility
Since the functions of the DIO-128 board are determined by the DSP
control program, a huge variety of other digital tasks including
digital output, continuous waveform generation, and fixed rate digital
input are possible. Contact Viewpoint Systems for information on
solving your specific digital applications with a custom DSP control
program.
Application Possibilities
- Motion Quality Measurement
Characterize motion throughout a mechanical system by comparing
multiple encoders for vibration, slippage, and jitter. Couple
a DIO-128 Dynamic Digital I/O System with a Viewpoint Motion Goto!
motion system for a complete motion quality measurement system!
- High Channel Density Digital I/O System
128, 256, 384... channel, high resolution acquisition that does
not overburden the application with unnecessary data. Coordinate
multi-board systems with clocks and triggers over the RTSI interface.
- Demanding Digital Pattern Stimulus System
The DIO-128 provides more flexibility than counter-based solutions
and requires much less data acquisition throughput than traditional
"dumb" digital interface cards.
- DIO-128 Features
- Intelligence: Analog Devices ADSP-2181 16 MHz DSP capable
of 32 MIPS.
- High speed: The DIO-128 can measure time intervals as short
as 500 nanoseconds.
- High channel count: 128 channels with 64 available for output.
- RTSI interface: Allows for multi-board triggers and clocks.
- Signal Conditioning: Use with Viewpoint's Opto32-128 optically isolated digital input conditioning board.
- Driver software with useful example programs included.
The DIO-128 Advantage
A typical "dumb" digital I/O card will sample and attempt to save
data at every clock tick. The DIO-128 will sample at every tick, but
save the data only when the signal has changed. This drastically reduces
the amount of data that needs to be transferred and processed by the
application.
