Notes from the EditorCustomer Relations Specialist

Excellent customer relations are the hallmark of many great companies. Personally, I’m not sure how any company survives without maintaining and even improving good relationships with their customers. Recently, Viewpoint hired Luke Piccarreto to assist with and improve our customer relations. As part of his efforts, Luke will be helping make our clients and vendors aware of upcoming events and activities and will assist in conducting periodic surveys for quality improvement and service offering and content. Luke can be reached at lpiccarreto@viewpointusa.com or 585 475 9559 x180. Please join me in welcoming Luke to the Viewpoint team!

Excel Worksheet for Cost Estimation of Test Executive Development

Last month in Part 2 of this series, I presented an example of comparing the costs of developing test applications with and without a Test Executive. At the end of the article, mention was made of an Excel worksheet to automate these calculations. The file is located here. Note that, in addition to the cost analysis over the years of usage, this file also includes an analysis over numbers of test stations.

Thanks for reading!

Part 3: Considerations for Choosing a Test Executive

We think TestStand is a wonderful Test Executive (TE) and we use it often, and that’s not just because we are a Select Integrator partner of NI. We even have a Certified TestStand Developer on staff to prove it. You might also remember from Part 1 of this series that Viewpoint still maintains our own in-house-developed Test Executive, the VSI TEC, and we use it often as well. I thought you might be interested in the reasons why we maintain this TE when TestStand is available. Read on...

Disney Institute of Technology

In a most capitalist April Fool’s Day prank, on April 1, 1998, hackers changed MIT's home page to announce that Walt Disney Co would be buying the school. The dedicated MIT pranksters went so far as to release an official looking press release (http://hacks.mit.edu/Hacks/by_year/1998/disney_buys_mit/snapshot/disney.html) that detailed, among other things, that "the entire MIT campus will be moved brick by brick down to the Walt Disney resort complex in Orlando, Florida" and the school would merge with the Disney Institute to become the "Disney Institute of Technology".

Not to be out done, the MIT News Office issued their own press release arguing that the sale could not be legitimate. http://hacks.mit.edu/Hacks/by_year/1998/disney_buys_mit/snapshot/newsoffice.html The main issue as described by MIT spokesman Ken Campbell, was that the price was "Only $6.9 billion? Much too cheap!"
