Greetings,
It’s been a busy summer so far and
we’re hoping that the second half turns out to be just as exciting!
In a few weeks we’ll be headed south to Austin, TX for NIWeek. The event is always informative and it’s
a great opportunity to see what’s new and mingle with fellow engineers.
Hope to see some of you there!
Last month we hosted Agilent’s Innovations
Tour Bus right here in our parking lot. Despite a rainy weather forecast
we were pleased that it turned out to be one of the most well attended
stops for them, thanks to all who came by!
Also in June we presented a seminar on
Best Practices for Effective Test that was a great success. Attendees
came away feeling more energized about their test jobs because, as one
person said, they were “excited to promote test to their management
and interacting groups within the company”. We received extremely
positive feedback, in particular on the lunchtime round-table discussion
that capped off each day. It was a unique opportunity for candid
sharing of issues everyone faces and for others to offer solutions.
The overwhelming response we received
prompted us to think how useful these open discussions can be for us
as an engineering community. Despite our different organizational
affiliations, we still face similar challenges. Are you interested
in getting together with us and your peers to discuss some of these
non-technical but just as challenging topics? Viewpoint would be
more than excited to host similar events around Upstate NY so let us know if you’d be interested in participating.
This month’s newsletter starts a series
where we will highlight some of the topics we reviewed in the seminar.
Our first topic is the perceived value of test within companies.
I'd love to get feedback from you about your experiences in promoting
the value of test. If you would like to share your comments with others,
I will include them in the next newsletter.
For those of you who were not able to
attend the seminar, catch up on the slide
presentation that’s out
on our website in the Resources section, to get an overview of some
of the topics we discussed.
Thanks for reading!

Does your company value test?
|
You may remember from previous emails
that the seminar topics surrounded best practices for the development
of a test system and for finding ways to leverage the most benefits
for your company. A key point throughout all the sessions we presented
was "how much is enough?" We believe that cost needs to
be balanced against capability.
This theme garnered a lot of interaction
at the open lunch discussion after the seminar. It was fairly amazing
to me how common the main issues were:
Of course some companies stressed some
issues more than others, but the desire to have good specs was universal.
In upcoming e-Newsletters, I'll explore more of the seminar topics and
the feedback we received. But, the one topic I do want to discuss now
is the perceived value of test.
